Voice FM is a proposed new community radio station for Southampton and the surrounding area.
Over the past two years, Ofcom have been releasing a number of licences for community radio stations throughout the UK. It is anticipated that during the second half of 2009 there will again be opportunities to apply for licences in the Southampton area. To that end, it is proposed to form a consortium of interested parties who will form a company, and be ready with the bid prepared, in time for the next round of licence awards.
So far there have been two meetings of interested parties, who include:
Southampton City College
Solent Skill Quest
Express FM Ltd
A representative of the Southampton Headteachers
Creative Partnerships
At the next meeting we hope to begin the process of forming the company and ascertaining what financial (or in kind) contributions will be committed by interested parties.
Our intentions in setting up this station will be to:
-
Deliver programmes in accordance with the Government's Every Child Matters agenda
-
Focus on life long learning
-
Raise aspirations
-
Celebrate success
-
Give people in the community a voice
-
Showcase talent
-
Offer learning opportunities and share inspiring stories
-
Run radio workshops for local school children and college students
-
Focus on work related learning, employability skills, emotional intelligence and citizenship
-
Encourage creativity and a spirit of enterprise
-
Boost the confidence and self esteem of everybody who gets involved with the station
